Agoda Finds India Fastest-Growing Asian Destination Among European Summer Travellers
India recorded a 14% rise in European summer travel searches, emerging as Asia's fastest-growing destination on Agoda. New Delhi, Mumbai and Goa led Indian searches as interest expanded across Europe in 2026.
The ranking is based on Agoda accommodation search data recorded from April to June 2026 for stays between July 1 and August 31, 2026.
The United Kingdom was the largest European market driving travel interest in India, followed by Germany, the Netherlands, France and Italy, based on accommodation search volumes.
While these markets recorded the highest overall travel interest, several emerging European markets posted notable year-on-year growth in accommodation searches for India. Slovakia led with a 148 percent increase, followed by Croatia at 128 percent and Ireland at 88 percent.
For Europeans, July and August mark the height of summer and a peak travel period, as schools break and holiday plans begin. In 2026, Thailand retained its position as the most-searched Asian destination among European travellers for the second consecutive year, while Indonesia moved into second place and Japan ranked third.
Among the top 20 Asian destinations, India recorded the most notable year-on-year growth in European searches at 14 percent, followed by South Korea at 13 percent and Vietnam at 12 percent. The three destinations recorded the fastest growth in European summer travel interest, indicating increasing demand for diverse itineraries beyond Asia's traditional hotspots.
Within India, New Delhi, Mumbai and Goa emerged as the most-searched cities among European travellers for summer 2026. As India's primary international gateways, New Delhi and Mumbai serve as key metropolitan hubs connecting travellers to destinations across the country while also offering cultural, culinary and urban experiences.
New Delhi attracts travellers with its rich history, iconic monuments and vibrant cultural heritage. Mumbai continues to draw visitors with its cosmopolitan energy, culinary scene and entertainment offerings. Goa remains a perennial favourite for its beaches, laid-back lifestyle and mix of Portuguese heritage, nightlife and coastal experiences.
Gaurav Malik, Country Director, Indian Subcontinent & Indian Ocean Islands, Agoda, said, "India's growing popularity among European travelers reflects a broader shift in how international visitors are discovering the country. Beyond iconic landmarks, travelers are increasingly seeking authentic cultural experiences, wellness retreats, culinary journeys, and nature-led escapes. The strong year-on-year search growth from both established and emerging European markets highlights India's expanding appeal as a diverse and value-driven destination. At Agoda, we connect travelers to India with great accommodation, flight and activity deals, helping them explore both renowned destinations and lesser-known gems."
Across Europe, the top five origin markets of France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Spain remained consistent from 2025 to 2026, indicating sustained interest in Asia among Europe's leading Asia-travel markets.
Interest also increased across other European markets. Türkiye recorded a 39 percent increase in searches for Asian destinations, followed by Hungary at 22 percent and the Czech Republic at 16 percent. The growth signals expanding interest in Asian travel among Central and Eastern European travellers.
